Fred Woodward invited me up to the GQ offices to have an advanced look at their new version of the GQ iPad app. GQ’s new take on the app goes beyond the previous RSS-feed style. In contrast, the new app is based on the print magazine driven by Fred Woodward’s design direction and executed by the GQ art department, thus reflecting the look and feel of the print publication. Must Download Magazine App from SXSW: SPIN Play
Found among the maze of booths here at SXSW Interactive, I discovered a killer new app for the iPad called SPIN Play which clearly falls under the category of “reinvent.”

CD Devin Pedzwater and DD Ian Robinson worked with development shop Bottle Rocket to create the app which leverages the printed magazine, but also adds live news & reviews feeds and what you would expect the most out of a music magazine: music. Users can stream songs mentioned in the magazine in a unique immersive experience. Definitely a must download app (see also: The Cut, EW’s Must List).
